Foundation models are the basis of the new AI paradigm, generative AI, which has been on everyone's lips since "ChatGPT". Foundation models are pre-trained large AI models that can be easily used, e.g. to support text analysis or text generation. The trick is to adapt these AI models to your own needs, i.e. your own language, either through prompt tuning or through fine-tuning. Technologically, open source software, on-premise operation and a trustworthy AI "à la EU AI Act "represent important skills. How this is possible in practice and concrete examples from various industries will be shown in the lecture.

Short Break
The carbon footprint of hot-water cooled datacenters is reduced by waste heat re-use and conversion into cooling by rapid thermal swing adsorption using adsorption chillers. Cloud and edge energy efficiency is improved with innovative, dense compute platforms. Reduced thermal resistance and deep search enable leading solar systems and carbon capture processes.  AI. energy efficiency is improved by measurements for recognition efficiency of models on different platforms. Many companies claim net zero status by using financial offsets. IBM’s focus on physical efficiency, heat reuse, and carbon capture is 100 times more difficult and impactful especially since 2030 is targeted.

In my presentation, I will examine the transformation of the Scrum Master from a problem-solving role to a leadership role. I will highlight the parallels and differences between the role of the Scrum Master and that of a disciplinary leader based on literature studies and the statistical analysis of a survey I conducted. The aim is to show how personal development strategies can be used to develop Scrum Masters into potential leaders.

The presentation will discuss the genesis of the Mayflower Autonomous Ship Project that culminated in the crossing of the Atlantic Ocean, from Plymouth UK to Plymouth MA in 2022.  Further an explanation of the process of automating ship functions and the development of sophisticated AI/ML based true autonomy, inclusive of computer vision, data fusion, dynamic route planning, strategic planning and other myriad aspects of the endeavor will be provided.  Additionally, we will discuss the ongoing development of the ‘AI Captain’ as a project for both commercial and military use, and the onset of complex ‘human-machine teaming’ undertakings at sea.

A mainframe modernization initiative shouldn’t mean rebuilding from the ground up with all the inherent risk that that entails. In fact, as many industry leaders have shown, mainframe and cloud can co-exist, each having its own strengths. By ensuring the right workload on the right platform, organizations can have access to a robust, secure, and reliable IT infrastructure that keeps up with constantly evolving business demands. Join us for a review of essential infrastructure components which will enable you to modernize in place without disrupting your mission critical systems.
